Who is Money Solutions?

Since 1995, Money Solutions has been striving to improve the financial well-being of all Australians. We’ve made education and advice accessible to all so that more Australians can enjoy a brighter financial future. Inspired by founder, Virginia Dowd, Money Solutions is backed by the resources of AAS, a company that administers the super funds of four million Australians.

How is Money Solutions different?

Money Solutions has helped improve the financial well-being of Australians because we are:

  • Affordable – Most companies offer a full financial plan only, but we offer advice for a single financial issue, a question at a time (eg consolidating your super). Our single issue advice means that you pay only for what you need. This makes our advice much more affordable because you don't have to pay for a full financial plan to get answers to single questions.
  • Accessible – No need to wait for a face-to-face appointment. With Money Solutions, you can get help over the phone from our Money Coaches.
  • Unbiased – Financial advisers normally get a commission on the products they recommend. Money Solutions does not. Our advice is in your interests – not ours.
  • Educational & inspirational – We don’t just offer financial advice. We provide education because we want to help you take charge of your financial future

What is financial advice?

Personal financial advice is guidance from a suitably qualified Financial Adviser who can help you make decisions about your money. Our planners will talk to you about your spending, your goals and your preferred investments. We’ll provide you with a quote before considering the options for you.

If you’re comfortable with the quote, we’ll go ahead and put together a written strategy for you (called a Statement of Advice, SoA), with plans and investment options for you to consider.

When you’re happy with the plan, we can help place the investments for you.

What is 'single issue advice'?

If you have a single question, you can speak to a Money Coach who is qualified to provide simple, clear and effective ‘single issue advice’ that is low cost.

Our Money Coaches are available over the phone to talk to you about single money questions that you might have on your mind.

Are you consolidating your super? Do you want to know which fund is best for you? What should you consider when deciding where to invest? Our Coaches will take the time to talk to you and understand your situation before giving you the answers you need.

What is a Money Coach?

Our personal Money Coaches are experts in money management, financial advice and wealth building. They can advise you on any of your money matters, from budgeting to superannuation or even paying off a loan. They provide answers to everyday questions over the phone, so you don’t even have to leave home to get advice. Our Coaches can help you with questions such as:

  • How do I start to save?
  • When can I retire?
  • Should I salary sacrifice?
  • Should I consolidate my super? How?
  • I have money to invest…what do I do?
  • Should I move my super?
  • Which investment option is right for me?

What is a Financial Adviser?

If you need more detailed financial advice or you want to prepare a complete plan for your financial future, speak to a Financial Adviser.

Our Financial Advisers are skilled in the following areas:

Your Financial Adviser will work with you to:

All our Financial Advisers have at least a Diploma of Financial Planning or equivalent. We also recruit only the candidates who want to make a difference to people’s lives so you can feel confident our Advisers are focused on you and your best interests.

What will this cost me?

The simple answer is “less than you might have paid in the past”. That’s because we don’t just offer full financial plans. We also offer advice on specific issues such as salary sacrificing. This means you just pay for what you need, when you need it. It puts financial advice within reach of most Australians. We do not receive commissions. Instead, we charge a fee for each service we provide.

Some employers or superannuation funds will pay for the first call to a Money Solutions Coach - when that call relates to superannuation issues. To find out if this applies to you, please contact us.

How should I pay for advice?

There are different ways you can pay for financial advice. Many financial advisers will give free advice but charge a commission on the products and services they recommend. These commissions are not always one-off and can ‘trail’ for the entire period of time you use that product or service. (ie You continue to pay for them into the future).

The risk, of course, is that the Adviser might not recommend the product that is right for you but, rather, the product that delivers the biggest commission for them. That’s why we don’t accept commissions.

Instead we charge a fee for advice. You are then free to choose whether you want advice on specific issues, a full financial plan or anything in between. You are in control and you can choose how and when to engage with us.

What’s the difference between a Money Coach and a Financial Adviser?

A Money Coach helps you over the phone with advice about specific financial issues such as how to consolidate your super. This single issue advice is low cost and easily accessible over the phone or via our website.

Our Financial Advisers offer a more comprehensive service. They look at your complete financial situation and prepare a plan for your future. Financial planning requires more of an investment but it also lets you take complete charge of your finances.

Why can't I see the money calculators on my screen?

You may need to install Java Runtime. If you see a message saying 'please wait', you'll need to follow the instructions in the message box at the top of your screen. Simply follow the prompts to install Java. Following installation, you may also need to close your Internet session and return to our website before the calculators will appear.

Why is it important to get financial advice from a properly accredited body?

Generally, only properly accredited institutions and individuals are permitted by law to provide you with personal financial advice. Under current law, any institution or individual that advises you about financial products must:

  • Hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL)
  • Be a director or employee of an AFSL holder, or
  • Be an Authorised Representative of an AFS licence holder

By dealing with an AFSL holder such as Money Solutions, you benefit from various legal protections. If you deal with someone who is unlicensed, and something goes wrong, you will not have the legal protection you may need.

How do I access the secure content?

Some areas of the Money Solutions site are accessible to all. But other areas of the site are restricted to registered members who are logged in. This is called 'secure content'. To access this content, you will need to:

Why can’t I see my personal data?

Why can't I log in

After three unsuccessful log in attempts your account will be frozen for 60 minutes. This is a security measure designed to protect your personal data from being accessed by an unauthorised person. If you have forgotten your password, you can request a new password via email or over the phone on 1800 046 144, Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm (EST).

Only you can see your data; however, you can give access to your Money Coach or Financial Adviser so they are better able to advise you.

What is co-browsing and how does it work?

If you have given your Money Coach access to your data, you can each look at your financial profile on the computer as you talk over the phone. This is called 'co-browsing'. Money Coaches are able to provide advice that is suited to your personal circumstances, needs and preferences when they have access to your personal financial details.
